03eb3e32-d9c8-4bbf-9b75-72461586ca3dTRV: What is your favorite element of the two studioMET homes that on tour?

studioMET: This home has a second floor yoga terrace and mini soccer pitch that doubles as a driveway using a grass paver system.

TRV: Other than the obvious, what makes these designs modern?

studioMET: These homes exhibit respect for the context and streetscape where they are located. Emory is massed in a way to maximize the footprint for the clients’ wishes while adhering to all City of West University restrictions on a typical lot size. As far as material expression is concerned, the wood floors on the stairs and second floor were reclaimed from Habitat for Humanity.

TRV: What is a notable custom-built aspect of the homes you have on tour?

studioMET: Both homes are custom designs and built by studioMET Architects and our partner builder firm Modern Concept Construction. We believe in a holistic approach and strive to create architecture that is environmentally conscious, appropriate to time and place, and honestly expresses structure and materials. As evident on the courtyard exterior elevation of the North house, the structural members are revealed to add another layer of depth and honesty to the courtyard experience that includes the flatwork, wood deck, natural landscaping, and outdoor living room.

TRV: When building a modern home, where do you begin looking for inspiration?

studioMET: We listen to our clients and are inspired to do good work based on the wishes and needs they convey to us. It’s a collaborative process.

We can’t wait to see these modern homes for ourselves. Get up close and personal with these stunning homes! Enter our first ever giveaway for your chance to win two tickets to the tour. Visit our Facebook page for more details.
