6 Easy Spring Cleaning Tips

Now that the hustle and bustle that comes with the winter months is finally behind us, it’s time to get to cleaning! Kick start the new season by refreshing your home. Before you dive head first into your spring cleaning, here are 6 quick and easy tips for rearranging, organizing and cleaning your home.

Switch up your accessories
You don’t have to revamp your entire space to freshen up your look. Something as simple as changing your decorative pillows or swapping out your area rugs can really liven up your décor. For accent pillows, don’t be afraid to mix and match different patterns and styles. Go bold with strong purple, green or blue hues, or try a softer approach by using a clean, crisp white. If you’re sticking with white, add some interest with a textured material or faux fur.

Scrub down your floors
The winter months are all about holidays and family gatherings, and after having so many guests in your home, your floors are probably in dire need of a little TLC. Whether you have hardwood or carpet, here are a few of our favorite wallet-friendly DIY remedies for keeping your flooring spotless.

Invest in storage
Your closet is premium real estate, so make the most of the space! You don’t need those thick winter coats anymore, so store them away in clear plastic bins and put them in your attic or garage. Now that you’ve freed up a few inches of space, utilize the limited square footage by adding hooks to your walls for storing purses and scarves and using combination hangers for your clothing. Create good feng shui
Feng shui is all about creating a more cohesive, relaxed space. An easy way to design a room with great feng shui is to reduce the clutter in your space by getting rid of items you don’t need. Having lots of open space and natural lighting helps create a harmonious environment. Don’t forget to incorporate the five principles of feng shui: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The simplest way to integrate these elements is through color. For example, make sure to have pieces that are brown, red-orange, green, silver and blue.

Sanitize your kitchen sink disposal
Disposals tend to house a lot of bacteria, but cleaning them it simpler than you think!

  • Dust a half-cup of baking soda down your disposal and add one cup of white vinegar afterward. The combined ingredients will start to bubble and you’ll hear a noise (but have no fear).
  • While the mixture reacts, boil a kettle of water.
  • Pour the boiling water down the drain and then drop in two cups of ice.
  • Pour a cup of salt over the cubes.
  • Run cold water and turn on the disposal until the ice has disappeared.
  • Then, turn off the disposal.
  • Cut a lemon in half and place it in the disposal.
  • Turn on the water and disposal and let it disintegrate the lemon. Voila!

Wash your blinds
Your blinds tend to attract dust and cobwebs – yikes! Keep them clean by vacuuming the blinds with the brush attachment – make sure to vacuum across, not up and down. If you don’t have a vacuum, you can just use a dry sponge instead. If you find a stain on your blinds, spray an all-purpose cleaner onto a dry cloth – never spray directly onto the blinds.

The spring season is all about new beginnings. With these easy tips, you’ll be on your way to having a squeaky clean and organized living space! What are your spring cleaning tips? Share them on Twitter!
